Because of its high mechanical resistance and its resistance to high temperatures (up to 94 °C), combined with the ease of printing, this material is an excellent alternative to ABS. ABS has a few downsides. For instance, you need an enclosure for it to prevent temperature fluctuations, and it gives off a lot of unpleasant odours while printing. 

ASA (which stands for acrylonitrile styrene acrylate), unlike ABS filament, does not need an enclosure in order to produce successful prints. This is because ASA clearly has lower shrinkage and gives off a far less unpleasant odour while printing than when you print with ABS filament. Less shrinkage and good adhesion prevent the model from warping and cracking and ensure high precision in dimensions and quality. This makes ASA filament a popular and widely used filament in, among others, the automotive industry and in the production of everyday items.

ASA filament is excellent for post-processing

The printed model, made with Fiberlogy ASA, can be smoothed and glued by treating it with acetone. ASA is also a material that is suitable for sanding and painting. So it is very versatile.
