What is PLA Mineral?

PLA Mineral by Fiberlogy is PLA with a mineral filler. This gives prints a matte, plaster-like look reminiscent of stone, marble or concrete, and layer lines show less. You can sand and paint a printed object, just like a plaster model. Marble has small coloured grains for a marble look, Concrete the grey colour of concrete.

What is rPLA?

According to Fiberlogy, rPLA Anthracite is made from 100% recycled PLA from verified sources. It prints like Easy PLA, with little shrinkage and good bonding between layers. Because the raw material differs per production batch, the colour intensity may vary slightly and it may contain traces of glitter. rPLA is also available as a refill without a spool.

Print settings

  • Nozzle: PLA Mineral 190–210 °C, rPLA Anthracite 210–230 °C, rPLA Refill 200–230 °C.
  • Print bed: 50–70 °C.
  • Cooling: as with PLA, usually 100%.
  • Enclosure: not needed.
  • Spool: 0.85 kg of 1.75 mm filament, with a diameter tolerance of ± 0.02 mm.

Frequently asked questions

  • Which filament has a marble look?

    PLA Mineral Marble has a light base with small coloured grains, which makes a print look like marble. For a concrete look, choose PLA Mineral Concrete.

  • Can I sand and paint PLA Mineral?

    Yes. Thanks to the mineral filler, a print sands well and takes paint well, much like a plaster model. You can read more about PLA Mineral in this article.

  • Is PLA Mineral harder to print than regular PLA?

    No. You print it like regular PLA, just a little cooler: 190–210 °C on the nozzle and 50–70 °C on the bed. No enclosure is needed.

  • What is rPLA and is it as good as new PLA?

    rPLA is PLA made from recycled material. Fiberlogy rPLA has the same diameter tolerance of ± 0.02 mm as their other PLA and prints with little shrinkage and good layer bonding. The only difference: the shade may vary slightly per production batch.

  • How do I use a refill without a spool?

    A refill is filament without a spool. You put it on a reusable spool, such as an empty Fiberlogy spool or a Masterspool you print yourself. This saves plastic and costs a little less. In this article you can read how it works.
